Import and Export

Michail Mutafchiev, the founder of Mike Scorpio EXP/IMP Travel CC, was born in 1968 in Sofia, Bulgaria (BG). His entrepreneurial spirit manifested during his student life in Bulgaria as he started his own Foreign Exchange Bureau named, ESTEL. Valuable experience was gained in international trade and foreign exchange. In 1992 he sold his shares in ESTEL and travelled to South Africa (SA) for New Year.

He fell in love with South Africa.

During his time in SA, Mike saw the opportunities between the trading of South Africa and Bulgaria. He trusted in his Zodiac star sign, Scorpio, and believed it was his good luck charm. In 1993, he then established Mike Scorpio Export-Import CC. His two-week vacation ended up being a few years…

Within this time, the company built a solid brand image and reputation in the South African flower industry. After several years of support from SA leading growers, trade, and global clients, Mike opened a flower auction under the name Flora Town in SA using the Dutch Clock System.

In 2001, SA growers and wholesalers were led by Mike to sponsor the “GET WELL MADIBA” initiative in Sandton mall (SA). They made the biggest bouquet record globally and over half a million Rand was donated to the Nelson Mandela Children’s fund. In 2003, Mike’s entity was the first online and real-time auction in the African continent whilst third internationally.

Till today, Mike Scorpio Export-Import CC, remains as one of the most well-known import/export companies of fresh cut flowers from and out of South Africa as well as internationally.
